Growing up in the Leyland family, travelling Australia wasn’t something we saved for holidays. It was part of everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I’d love to share some of that magic with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re heading into the heart of Queensland’s Dinosaur Country, travelling through Winton, Hughenden, Richmond and Longreach with a small group of just ten guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I’ve put together an adventure that offers much more than simply visiting the attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dinosaurs, Fossils and a Sky Full of Stars<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the things I love most about Queensland’s Dinosaur Trail is that every destination has a completely different story to tell. From enormous dinosaurs to ancient marine reptiles, it’s like travelling through millions of years of Australian history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll discover Australia’s incredible prehistoric past at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum<\/a>, walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs at Lark Quarry and explore the fascinating marine fossils of Richmond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll meet Hughie the Muttaburrasaurus in Hughenden, discover the stories behind Waltzing Matilda and experience the wonder of the Outback night sky during a planned astronomy experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And one morning, we’ll be up early for something rather special \u2014 breakfast together at Porcupine Gorge<\/a>, surrounded by some of Queensland’s most spectacular scenery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’ll be time for photographs, a few laughs and those wonderful little moments that often become the best memories of a holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And on our way to Richmond? We’ll stop in Hughenden for a proper country bakery pie!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, instead of rushing home, we’ll climb aboard the iconic Spirit of the Outback<\/strong> for an overnight railway journey to Brisbane in reserved Twin Sleeper accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before reaching Winton, we'll make our way to the spectacular Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History, perched high above the surrounding plains on a mesa known as The Jump-Up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our experience is planned to include the museum's comprehensive Ultimate Dinosaur Tour<\/strong>, taking us behind the scenes of Australia's remarkable prehistoric past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'll explore the fossil preparation laboratory, collection room, March of the Titanosaurs exhibition and Dinosaur Canyon, discovering how scientists continue to uncover and study dinosaur fossils millions of years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After our museum experience, we'll continue into Winton, where we'll check into our accommodation and enjoy some time to relax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deep-Time Astronomy \u2013 Gondwana Stars Observatory<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This evening, we'll return to The Jump-Up for a completely different experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Gondwana Stars Observatory, we'll turn our attention from the prehistoric world beneath our feet to the extraordinary universe above us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Far from the bright lights of Australia's major cities, we'll enjoy the approximately 1\u00bd-hour Deep-Time Astronomy Tour, discovering the stars, planets and wonders of the night sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It's a wonderful introduction to Dinosaur Country and a memorable way to spend our first evening in Winton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our destination is the Flinders Discovery Centre<\/strong>, another of the four major experiences making up Australia's Dinosaur Trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we'll meet the enormous life-size Muttaburrasaurus replica affectionately known as Hughie<\/strong>, one of the centre's most recognisable attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'll discover fascinating fossils and geological treasures that tell the story of this region's prehistoric past, including the remarkable creatures that once roamed this ancient landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depending on timing and conditions, we'll also explore some of Hughenden's local sights and may head to Mount Walker to enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding Outback countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a day of discovery, we'll settle into our Hughenden accommodation for the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'll head north from Hughenden towards magnificent Porcupine Gorge National Park<\/strong>, arriving in the beautiful early-morning light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Often described as Queensland's Little Grand Canyon<\/em>, Porcupine Gorge reveals spectacular layers of ancient sandstone carved by Porcupine Creek over millions of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than rushing through, we'll take our time to appreciate this remarkable landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I'll be bringing along specially prepared breakfast packs for everyone<\/strong>, so we can enjoy a relaxed Outback breakfast surrounded by the natural beauty of Porcupine Gorge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There's something wonderful about starting the day outdoors, enjoying breakfast together and taking in the colours of the ancient gorge as the morning light changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'll have time to admire the views, take photographs and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After our morning at Porcupine Gorge, we'll make our way back to Hughenden for another little Outback treat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'll stop at a local bakery, where there's nothing quite like a freshly baked country pie for lunch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It's a chance to enjoy a relaxed lunch, support a local business and experience a little more of everyday life in an Outback Queensland town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Onwards to Richmond<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After lunch, we'll continue east towards Richmond, travelling through the wide-open landscapes of Queensland's Dinosaur Country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This afternoon is deliberately relaxed following our early start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There'll be time to settle into our accommodation and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Lake Fred Tritton and the historic township of Richmond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kronosaurus Korner \u2013 Richmond<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At Kronosaurus Korner<\/strong>, we'll discover Australia's premier collection of marine fossils and meet some of the incredible creatures that once inhabited this ancient ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the collection is Penny<\/strong>, one of Australia's most complete marine vertebrate specimens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'll explore the fascinating exhibits and discover how Richmond became one of Australia's most important locations for prehistoric marine fossil discoveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fossil Finding Experience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We're also planning to incorporate a hands-on fossil experience, giving our guests the opportunity to learn how to search for and identify fossils in the Richmond region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It's a wonderful opportunity to experience the excitement of discovering evidence of creatures that lived millions of years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following our Richmond experience, we'll turn west again and travel through Hughenden towards Winton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tonight we'll return to Winton for one final night before continuing our adventure to Longreach tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From its humble beginnings in Outback Queensland to becoming an internationally recognised name, Qantas has a fascinating history of adventure, innovation and determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'll explore the museum's aviation exhibits and discover the people and pioneering spirit behind the airline's extraordinary journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our visit is also planned to include a guided aircraft experience<\/strong>, taking us beyond general museum admission and providing an opportunity to get up close to the museum's historic aircraft collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After our daytime experience, we'll return to our accommodation, with some time to relax before tonight's special event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luminescent Longreach \u2013 An Evening of Light and Sound<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After dark, we'll return to the Qantas Founders Museum for Luminescent Longreach<\/strong>, one of the town's most memorable evening experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using spectacular projections, music and sound, the story of Qantas comes to life across the Boeing 747, Boeing 707 and Super Constellation beneath the museum's Airpark roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It's a wonderful way to finish our aviation day and experience another side of Longreach after sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our day is planned to include a visit to the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame & Outback Heritage Centre<\/strong>, one of Longreach's most celebrated attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we'll discover the stories of the pioneers, pastoralists, stockmen and First Nations people whose lives and experiences have helped shape regional Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through fascinating exhibits and displays, we'll gain a deeper appreciation of the challenges, resilience and traditions of life in the Australian Outback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomson River \u2013 Our Outback Farewell<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Later, we'll come together for a special farewell experience planned around the beautiful Thomson River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We're hoping to enjoy an evening river cruise and an Outback dinner and show experience, taking in the atmosphere of Longreach as the sun sets over the landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After days filled with dinosaurs, fossils, ancient landscapes, aviation history and unforgettable Outback characters, it's a fitting way to celebrate our adventure together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to Longreach \u2013 but our adventure isn't quite over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, we'll transfer to Longreach Railway Station and board Queensland Rail's iconic Spirit of the Outback<\/strong> for our overnight journey to Brisbane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than spending a couple of hours flying home, we're going to slow things down and experience the changing Queensland landscape from the comfort of the train.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Overnight Outback Rail Adventure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

And what better way to finish than aboard one of Queensland's most iconic train journeys?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'll arrive at Brisbane Roma Street Station<\/strong>, where our Queensland Dinosaur Trail & Outback Legends adventure comes to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After ten days of exploring together, it's time to say our farewells and head home with wonderful memories, new friendships and plenty of stories to share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
